My husband and his best friend share the same birthday, and it’s tradition for them to celebrate together. My first challenge in planning this party was to come up with a festive theme suitable for these guys. I’ve been secretly waiting for an opportunity to indulge in the adorable mustache decorations that have been so popular lately, but sadly they seemed more fitting for a babyshower or baby boy’s first birthday. But then one night during some preliminary Pinterest searching, I came across a couple of parties that incorporated mustaches among the typical fiesta decor. Combine that with my husband’s love of Mexican food, the crowd pleasing nature of Margaritas, and voila!
I worked with Just a Little Sparkle to create these adorable custom invitations that were sure to set the tone for our event.
For seating, I decided to create a “Cantina” feel by using pub tables and barstools from my go-to rental source, Apex Tent & Party . The centerpieces were mini pinatas from Hobby Lobby and recycled Corona bottles for vases. I managed to squeeze in the mustaches as a finishing touch. I also scored and found some adorable mustache straws at Michael’s in the dollar bins… so I made sure I found a fun way to display those as well.
I love having a photo booth station at our events, and this time I challenged myself to make a backdrop on a budget. I repurposed some plastic tablecloths to create a pinata fringe type look.
The adorable printable by Just a little Sparkle really dressed up our photo booth prop table.
I decided to try a tip from some local fellow party planners and ordered my sweets from our neighborhood Vons bakery. For under $40 I had two mini cakes and three dozen cupcakes. The outcome wasn’t too shabby. I dressed up the cakes and cupcakes with picks from Hobby Lobby. And to finish off the cake table, I added a salsa bar – not necessarily “sweet” but it was definitely cute. Quite possibly my favorite party element was an alcohol-free take on a margarita bar which I created using mini margarita glasses, candy, melting chocolate and colored sugar. The signs were designed by Just a little Sparkle and I displayed them using some very inexpensive IKEA frames.
